This Precipitous Plunge ~ Abyss of Beauty!

Reflections from solitude

Dec 6, 2019

Prayer

This was written as a series of reflections from a month in silence and solitude, in north Florida. May the writer's reflections be windows to look in, or out, onto the vista of our one Beloved, our deepest, truest one-Self. Peace! Brian

The Wind blows where It chooses. You can't know where from, to. Likewise, each born of Spirit.

*The Christ, Gospel of John

I believe in all that has never yet been spoken.
I want to free what waits within me
so that what no one has dared to wish for
may for once spring clear
without my contriving.

*Rainer Maria Rilke. Rilke's Book of Hours.

My Beloved, my Friend,
I have gone there, My Heart

I have seen
from the blue orb of these eyes

from this sparkling, glorious
sacred, breathing
flesh

to the treacherous rim
precipitous plunge into Beauty
looked over

how many times?

only one enough
for this one life

sweetly delirious
maddening intoxication!

was I ~ am I ~ a fool
if so, for You
for Love a fortunate fool

blessed gift, to see such Beauty
bubbling up
celestial streams from the dark Abyss

here
this!

region of devoted death
illimitable Life

I have gone there

how many times?

to see
to say
for others this risk
~ or so it seemed ~
on the lip between sane and insane

possibly,
I had no choice

your Wind
without permission
carried me there

was this my choice
or destiny?

again and again
died and died
lived and lived

so these tears
rivers of Life ~
so much unspoken Love!

the veil, the clear globe
once touched with seeing
while seeing through
could not go there

like a wall
saying
No, yet solicitously seductive
like tasting a hint of a delicious union of mouths
while denied the meeting of longing lips

there I wondered, and yes
wandered quietly, yet still

now, gone

this river was
this river I am

here and then
for timeless Quiet
smiling on the rim
I taste life and death
one beneficent Beatitude

such Beauty!
so these tears

supple-soaked lens
stream-streaked cheeks

praise
for this Gift

of Life!

Now, Your Voice
seen everywhere

A Face
met in any alley, street,
field, around each corner

on fire!
on fire!
aflame world
Light of
dark and bright

How many times
can one leave here
before never coming back to

this world
again?
